It all starts with the right amount of loose leaf tea. Follow the steeping instructions for your tea. If you use too much leaf the brew will be bitter and if you use too little the brew will have no flavor. Water temperature varies based on the tea.
Black teas steep best in boiling water at 212º F. Steep for 3-5 minutes. The high heat releases the flavor and steeps a wonderful cup.
Green teas steep between 170º F - 185º F. Steep for 2-3 minutes. Never use boiling water for green tea because it can singe the tea leaves and make the tea bitter. Let the tea sit for a few minutes before drinking. This will enhance the flavor of the tea. Green tea can be re-infused by adding 1 minute to each additional steep.
White tea water temperature should be between 170º F - 185º F. Steep for 2-3 minutes. And, like green tea let the tea sit for a minute before drinking to enhance the flavor. White tea can be re-infused by adding 1 minute to each additional steep.
Oolong tea water temperature should be between 185º- 190º F. Steep for 3-5 minutes. Light oolongs steep best at a lower temperature. Darker oolongs steep best at a higher temperature. Some oolongs can be re-steeped by adding 1 minute to each additional steep.
Rooibos tea water temperature should be 212º F. Steep for 4-5 minutes.
Fruit Tisanes water temperature should be 212º F. Steep for 5-6 minutes. The high temperature and longer steep time releases the natural flavors of the fruit and flowers in the blend.
Herbal tea infusions water temperature should be 212º F. Steep for 4-6 minutes. Some herbal teas can be re-infused by adding 1 minute to each additional steep time.
Enjoy your time with tea!
