Genmaicha originated centuries ago with a gesture of humility and conservation when Buddhist monks mixed green tea with the browned rice stuck to the bottom of their rice cauldrons. Japanese tea vendors began blending sencha and bancha with roasted rice, creating a widely popular green tea. Steeps a medium-bodied cup with a rich nutty sweetness.
Use 1 teaspoon per 8 oz. cup. Bring water to a boil and let it cool slightly before pouring over tea leaves. Steep 2 minutes. Tea can be re-infused multiple times by adding 1 minute to each additional steep.
