We've been steeping and drinking tea for over 500,000 years. The relationship we have with nutrition and our brain is an essential part of our day. Tea has the right amount of stimulation and reduces drowsiness.
Tea gives us more energy and blocks the signal to the brain that we're tired. This works for us during those afternoon slumps. But, your body still needs a goodnight sleep to restore itself. An afternoon nap is not enough. We need a minimum of 8 hours of sleep every night to allow our bodies to reset.
A unique quality to tea is the amino acid L-theanine. This amino acid is found in black, green, matcha, and gyokuro tea. It has a relaxing affect, reduces anxiety, and calms us because it increases the number of nuerotransmitters that balance our moods to modulate serotonin and dopamine (the feel good feeling).
Tea is also rich with antioxidants that protect our cells from free radicals, prevent blood clots, cancer, memory-loss, heart disease, strokes, and it can lower cholesterol.
So, if you're not having a good day, feel a bit glum, stressed, anxious, or tired. Steep a cup of tea and let it take you to your happy place. The day goes in the direction you allow it to go. Always head in a positive direction. Don't give in to negative vibes.
